What About Breakfast at Tiffany's?

The iconic 1961 film adaptation of Truman Capote’s 1958 novella, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” is one of my favourite films, mostly due to how stylish the whole picture is. So, knowing this, I have to say my 17th birthday was unlike any other. After spending the morning skating at the Rockefeller, getting birthday cake at the Magnolia Bakery and shopping down fifth avenue my parents surprised me with the chance to have ‘breakfast at Tiffany’s’ (sadly it was no longer breakfast time, but it sounds better like that).

Sat on the top floor, the newly renovated home-goods floor of the Tiffany & Co was partly transformed into The Blue Box Café drenched head to toe in tiffany blue. On my first impression it felt quite temporary, like a pop-up shop, it was small, but I liked that as it felt more intimate and special and not over crowed. All cutlery, crockery and table decoration were all Tiffany homeware, which was a nice touch that made it feel even more luxurious. The café only seated 40 at a time, all of which were female when I went, well apart from my dad who probably felt very out of place. It was truly instagramable and influencers would definitely have a fit in there.

T

he menu was limited, but that’s probably due to the lack of a proper chef’s kitchen that would be unattainable to have in the store. I opted for a lobster salad, which was mediocre, and I wish I ordered a sweet, my mums waffles looked pretty good but as usual I ordered the wrong thing. For the staggering price of $42 I don’t particularly think the meal matched the price, but I wouldn’t expect it to be reasonably price anyway.

Though the actual services of the café were mediocre, it’s definitely an experience to have especially when you can say that you’ve actually had breakfast at Tiffany’s. If you’re ever in the city and are able to get a reservation you should definitely swing by.
