Finding a new series to binge watch is really hard especially if you’re a picky person like me. So, I have gathered together my top series that I rave about constantly to my friends.
Mad Men: I was only 6 when it was first aired so I didn’t catch up with the hype till early last year. Having a long summer after finishing my A levels, I felt I had more than enough time to watch the entire 7 season series in one go and I think this was time well spent. Set in the 1950’s/60’/70’s in New York, it follows the lives of an advertising firm both inside and outside the office. It tackles key points in American history like politics, pop culture and issues within society like racism and sexism. With very handsome protagonist played by Jon Hamm, the start studded cast doesn’t disappoint. Not only are the story lines throughout the series truly gripping, but the costumes and sets really mesmerise me. As the decades change throughout the series so does the fashion and furnishings making it visually appealing too.
Sex and the City: Probably on most peoples to watch list, but there’s a good reason for it. After watching the series a couple times over and re-watching the movies numerous times it is defiantly my number one recommendation. It involves all my favourite things: Fashion, friendship, love, partying and New York City. It Follows the lives of Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte, four sassy New York-based women, who despite their differences and ever-changing sex lives stick together through the ups and downs. Narrated by the leading lady Carrie, played by the very stylish Sarah Jessica Parker, we are shown what it’s like to live a dream life in the big apple surrounded by friends and fashion. I love how the four main characters are so distinctive from their lifestyle and job title to what they wear.
Weeds: This next recommendation is something I randomly stumbled upon on Netflix and thoroughly enjoyed it. With short episodes its defiantly and easy watch. After the death of her husband, Nancy Botwin sees a lucrative business in dealing marijuana to local clients. But the money comes with its own set of problems. The dark comedy defiantly kept me laughing throughout and made me want to go back and watch again.
The Politician: A Netflix original and a Ryan Murphy production, The Politician is the newest series on this list after only being aired at the end of last year. Wealthy high school student Payton Hobart has known since he was 7 years old that he is going to be the president of the United States. The first step toward that goal is to become his school's student body president. To do that, he will have to navigate the treacherous political landscape of Saint Sebastian High School. Hobart feels he needs to win the election to secure his spot at Harvard and continue on his projected path to success. To achieve his goals, he'll have to outsmart his ruthless classmates without sacrificing his own morality and, most importantly, carefully crafted public image. This series is full to the brim with a star-studded cast. It’s woke and completely up to date with todays openness. This is far more than any simple television show, it’s a genuine and interesting experience where you get the privilege to view unique and non-cliché high school characters and students. If you have the time you should definitely binge the first series before the second one airs.
