With this national lockdown among us right now, I thought I would throw you some ideas to keep you entertained during this very strange time in everyone’s life right now.
Arts and Crafts: Being trapped in my house with all my family members makes me feel like I’m 8-year-old again during the summer holidays trying to find fun activities to do to keep me occupied for a couple of hours. By picking up painting I feel like I’m reliving my Art Attack dreams. Though I am certainly no artist and never have been, I have really enjoyed painting and it has really lifted my spirts at this very strange time. Because my skills are still very much at a beginner’s level, most of my paintings are very reminiscent of pop art with lots of flat images and bright colours. If you dig deep in your old arts and crafts box, I’m sure you’ll find some sort of materials to work with and give it a go, you never know you could unleash a hidden talent.
Become a Mixologist: With the closure of bars and restaurants, a lot of my drinking has been with in my home and consisted of a repetitive cycle of pinot griot and prosecco which quite frankly is getting boring. So, to mix things up a bit I have decided to raid one of my parents many liquor collections and get creative in the kitchen. So far, I have mastered the perfect margarita (both on the rocks and frozen), espresso martini, porn star, mai-tai and French 75. Even if you had a very sparse collection of liquors you could still probably make a decent number of cocktails and creations.
Finally have a decent wardrobe clear out: I have to admit I have an embarrassing amount of clothes that I haven’t worn in years or never worn at all. This is slowly becoming an issue, as the more my style evolves the more clothes I want to buy, then the more clothes I have the less space I have in my wardrobe, it’s a vicious circle. So, with all the time in the world we have right now I saw this as an opportunity to have a thorough and proper clear out, Marie Kondo style. I didn’t hold back, and I unsurprisingly have curated three massive piles: charity shop, Depop and Bin. The feeling of a half empty wardrobe made me feel so much better as I feel like I have a fresh start and a new canvas to fill.
Unleash your inner Mary Berry: I’ve never been much of a baker, but when it comes to premade cake mix, I am the GOAT. However, with more time on my hands and a lack of baked goods in the supermarkets I decided to give baking from scratch a whirl starting off with a basic vanilla tray bake with icing and rainbow sprinkles. Inspired my favourite primary school dinner dessert, the cake turned out very delicious, so much so that it was all eaten within 48 hours (with help from my family of course). Next on my baking agender is a Bakewell tart.
